The Mission . . . The Vision
Our planet is in trouble. The population is exploding and we all need food, clothing and shelter.
Welcome
I'm glad you stopped in. I hope you're as passionate about hemp as I am. If you are, the following pages will probably reiterate many of the things that you already know about hemp, and I hope you learn a few new things as well. If you're not passionate about hemp, then I hope by perusing my site you will begin to be; or at least begin to see why myself and millions of others world-wide are struggling to remediate hemp's reputation. Hemp offers so much, and asks for so little, that I can't help but to take up its cause. Hemp is truly a super-plant. It provides food, clothing, shelter, medicine, energy, paper, textiles, topsoil creation, and on and on and on... fifty thousand consumer goods (by some estimates). That number is just a beginning; imagine what will come to pass when the creative, industrial might of America wakes to see its true potential. But for that to happen, changes need to be made and of all the wondrous things that hemp is capable of, it still can't speak, it still can't vote, it still can't change the law. It needs allies, people willing to take up its cause, tell its story, and educate the misinformed masses of what we as a people are missing. I believe that hemp, industrial and otherwise, as man's bedrock commodity, is our best chance to fundamentally alter how we live if we as a collective are really serious about survival. My vision is of a world where topsoil is created, where forests flourish and expand, where home construction makes environmental as well as economic sense, where foods are grown without chemicals, and where a sustainable source of energy exists that remediates our atmosphere. Hemp can help make each one of those visions a reality but it is a vision of a world on a path 180 degrees from the path it is presently on. But this isn't only my vision, this is a vision of millions of people around our precious planet who have begun to understand the full potential of hemp, so please, read on.
A mountain of information is being circulated about hemp, but like in a dream we find no footholds, no handholds, we're screaming into a void - no ears hear our plaintive howls. Part of the problem is the old "preaching to the choir" syndrome. Anyone who attends a "Hemp Fest" or reads a hemp book, watches a hemp video, or in some other way attempts to increase his or her understanding of the plant and the issues that surround it, is probably already pro-hemp and doesn't really need his or her mind changed. The rest of America has accepted a version of the truth that can best be described as "State Sponsored Ignorance," which translates roughly to "hemp and marijuana are evils to be avoided at any cost." Well folks, the costs are mounting - as I explain in "Drug Alchemy" - but the economic cost is not all we're paying. The image of America itself has been tarnished by our government's neo-fascist handling of the hemp issue. It's gotten to where average citizens wouldn't know a hemp plant if one were growing out of their asses, and in their wildest dreams they would not, could not, imagine the width and breadth of the bounty contained in that humble little plant.
Some of you have heard of Abraham Maslow - maybe you haven't - anyhow, he had this paradigm called "Maslow's Pymamid" and in a nutshell he laid it out, pyramid style, the basics we humans need to exist. Oxygen and water being a given, the foundation row of bricks on his pyramid are food, clothing, and shelter. There is only one plant in the world that can deliver those three things: food, clothing, and shelter in industrial quantities, and that one thing is hemp. Hemp is truly amazing, it really is. On God's green earth I can't think of any other plant that even approaches it for utility, speed of growth, variety of uses, ability to adapt, and potential to serve mankind. Since the dawn of time hemp has been our friend; feeding us, protecting us from the cold, healing many of our maladies, and helping us to grow our minds. It has given us shelter, water-proofed our shoes and our protective wear. It has given us the sails to go forth upon the oceans and the rope to reef those same sails. It has given us paint and varnish to help preserve our buildings and our boats; it has given us paper and ink to record our journey through time and yet how do we repay the favor? We vilify and demonize the plant, send in armies of jack-booted thugs to destroy it and terrorize those who would grow it. In short, we foster a decade's long pogrom against this defenseless little plant that for at least ten thousand years has given its all to better man?s existence. Well brothers and sisters, I for one am just a little pissed off about how our "rulers" have chosen to gerrymander the facts about and the history of hemp to fit their own greedy agendas. It's high time to set the record straight and it is being accomplished in small ways every day. All over the world people are waking up, speaking out, getting involved. I'm tossing in my two cents worth and taking up the cause of our little green friend. I've chosen to speak up and speak out for hemp because like I said, it can't speak for itself.
My first attempt at bringing what I know about hemp was writing the novel "Tales of the Emerald Triangle." Books about the wonders of hemp abound, but as a rule they are read only by people who already have some idea about hemp's many uses. My aim was to write an action-adventure novel with an "excuse me" history of hemp and marijuana prohibition cleverly woven into the storyline, which would reach a wider audience. So far my "success" with that endeavor has been modest. What I hope to accomplish with this web site, other than selling a few more books, is to compress the salient facts about hemp into a easily digestible few pages that sheds some light on the bounty that we are presently being denied, and offer to the visitors to the site an opportunity to get involved. The site is designed to grow. It will become inter-active and I hope it will someday be a widely visited rest stop on the back roads of cyber space. As the site evolves I will post as many pro-hemp events that I get wind of, link to any other hemp activist who cares to be so associated, and offer an easily accessible data base of politicians addresses, phone numbers and email addresses to take our message to the "enemy" as it were. People, let's face it, changing the law is a long term goal, and the first rule of military strategy is "never underestimate the power of your enemy," The corporate purveyors of petroleum derivatives have as much power in our time as the Pharaohs had back in the day. So even though the "Oleo-Pharaohs" have our legal system in a strange hold, don't lose heart, history is full of stories of monolithic dynasties that crumbled into ruin. Hell, the 1,000 year Reich only lasted ten years. The grease merchants' days are numbered but we the people go on and on.
So roll a fatty, pour yourself a glass of something cool, and surf around my site. Oh yeah, buy a copy of my book for yourself or someone you love. Really, you won't regret it and you'll be making my mother happy - a "win-win."
